Melbourne News

Melbourne Fray

Well Melbourne Fray Day is well and truly over. We had less people turn out than we liked but that just meant it was more intimate. Gelfling were just amazing and made many new fans.

The story telling started with Rosanna telling about the history of Fray Day and her involvement with Fray. She then read her contribution to Fray's millenium stories. That was followed by Barbara talking about turning 21 and having glandular fever.

Many more stories were told -- too many to remember. Will post more later & scan the results of the interactive projects.

This is it!

Only a few hours now until Melbourne Fray Day. Don't forget to get there early so you can sign up for the open mic.

Call for photographers

My (not so) trusty camera buggered up last weekend and won't be fixed in time for Saturday night so we need photographers for the Melbourne Fray Day. If you are intending to turn up with camera please mail me so I can sleep easy.

Of course, if you are interested in documenting the day in another form of media -- then that is particularly fine and dandy too.

Other things:

I had a lovely chat to Alicia & Steve on 3RRR today about Fray Day. I hope the listeners note that most people at Fray Day will be much more articulate than I was today.

My email address has changed to kathrynoh@nemesis.com.au

Feature Storytellers

Fray Day Melbourne is pleased to announce the first of our feature story tellers:

Sean Hegarty is the author of Sonata for Unfinished Yelling, an online journal that recently won several imaginary awards. He's lived in 47 houses and visited 36 countries, and is still trying to work out why.

And local writer, Barbara Kerr who says: Barbara Kerr is nobody. Who are you?

If you are interested in being a feature storyteller for Fray Melbourne we still have some spots left so don't be shy.

Posters

We are planning on flooding the town with posters this week but can't be everywhere at once so be a chum and either download the poster or contact me to get some hard copies.

Stick them up in your local cafe, pub, library, laundrymatt, where ever.

Fray Meeting

The Fray Day meeting today went really well with some great ideas being tossed around for interactive art projects all of which sound fun.

We are still looking for feature performers so anyone who is interested should definitely get in touch -- don't be shy.

I have taken some photos of the venue so will post them soon.

Meeting

Melbourne Fray Dayers will be meeting up this Sunday, 25th August, at the venue (Good Morning Captain, 20 Johnstone St, Collingwood) 3.00pm. Anyone interested in having input into this year's Fray Day is most welcome to come along.

Gelf'ling

We are very excited to announce that Gelf'ling will be playing at Melbourne Fray Day.

Mixing elements of spoken work, pop, poetry, alternative, folk and metal. layered upon traditional beats of a middle eastern flavour, Gelf'ling create music that is fresh, exciting and powerful.

Meeting

Melbourne Fray Day organisers are meeting on Sunday to get things happening. Contact me if you want to get stuck into the nitty gritty.

Flier

Ericmonkey has created a fab flier to advertise the Melbourne Fray Day. So what to do with it? Download the file, print out a copy or two and take it along to your local cafe, library, bookshop, school, work or anywhere else that is appropriate and ask them to stick it up. It's as simple as that and we can paint this town Fray!

Note: while we want to spread the word far and wide, make sure the fliers are only in legitimate places. There have been some pretty hefty fines from local councils lately for posters on street poles.

Venue Announcement

Fray Day Melbourne will be held on Saturday 14 September at Good Morning Captain, 20 Johnston St, Collingwood (just near the intersection of Johnston St & Smith St). Doors open at 8.00 pm.

Good Morning Captain is a cafe with a nice big room at the back which is used for poetry readings and other literary-type events.
